Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony

The land of Beauty Pegeants, now became the land of Sportmen & Sportswomen.

Britain’s Prince Charles declared the Games open in the presence of Indian President Pratibha Patil at the extravagant ceremonies in a packed main stadium.

The finally manage to put up a grand opening ceremony after few hurdles faced by the organising team i.e:

1. Snakes
2. Roof and bridge falling off
3. Cracks in the sports complex
4. missing deadlines for constructions
5. Dengue fever
6. Corruption scandal

It was as if watching a wedding ceremony.

Started with plays of percussions from various states followed by traditional dances i.e barathanatyam, kathakali, kuchupudi, bangra etc.

Performance from yoga broub by flexing their body and soul.

Of course, finnaly the Bollywood superstar and Oscar winning composer A.R. Rahman, who provided the score for the movie Slumdog Millionaire, wrote the theme song of the Games, “Jiyo, Utho, Bado, Jeeto” or “Live, Rise, March, Win.”

At one point it appeared that many teams would pull out to force the Games to be cancelled.

17 games will be taking place and 71 countries will be taking part.

India became the only 2nd Asian nation after Malaysia to host the games.

We hope the Malaysian Contingent too will meet their mark of grabbing 10 gold medals, a record for the nation outside it's land.
