Florence Griffith Joyner aka "Flo Jo" born in Los Angeles and educated& trained at Calirfonia State University.
After winning a silver medal in the 200-meter dash in the 1984 Olympics, she went into semiretirement. She returned to competition in 1987, taking second place at the World Championship Games in Rome.
After rigorous training she made a highly dramatic comeback in the trials for the 1988 Olympic Games. Her prowess, along with her glamour and eye-catching clothes, made "Flojo" a media sensation and one of the highest-paid sports figures in the world.
She dazzled the world with her six-inch long fingernails and sexy running attire, scorching tracks and retinas with her line of skin-tight negligées, some of which she dubbed "one-leggers."

In 1988, at the Olympic Games in Seoul, she won gold medals in the 100- and 200-meter races and in the 400-meter relay; she took the silver in the 1600-meter relay. Since then she has devoted her time to commercial enterprises, writing, and modeling.
In 1989 she announced her retirement from track, although she continued to coach her husband, Al Joyner, a champion jumper whom she married in 1987.
She is the current world record holder for 100M (10.49 seconds) and 200M(21.34 seconds). The closest was Marion Jones with timing of 10.75secs.
Her death at age of 38 brought rumours that she may have used performance enhancing drugs.
Looks like it may take another 10 years to produce another Flo Jo / Lady Usain Bolt.
Her famous quotes:
I don't play around. I want to get on the track, get the job done and get off.
Nothing is going to be handed to you -- you have to make things happen
